Cinco de Mayo '99!
|
Hoo boy, here it comes! HFR live and in the house!
That's right, it's a stupendous extravaganza of gonzo, the very first relatively public appearance
of the newest sensation about to sweep the nation (or at least a few quality bars and clubs in San
Francisco), Haight Free Radio!
Why are we doing this? Well, we're not really ready to play a gig, but we're so damn excited about
how things are going already that we really want to share it with some of our friends! Some people
spend their lives working in bands, making "art" and what not. We're only in it for the fun
(OK, that and groupies!), so we figured the best way to have the most fun is to build it in from the
very start and that means you.
So come on out and have some fun. Play an instrument? Be prepared to jump on stage! We don't have
a very big set list at this point! Wanna dance? Come on and dance!
OK, here's all the details you'll need to get here and get going:
|
|
Where:
|
In the sound stage at Lennon Studios. Lennon Studios is located on Dore
Street, south of Market in San Francisco. Dore Street is a little alley
located between 9th and 10th Streets. The particular section of Dore that
you're looking for is between Bryant and Harrison. All of the streets
around that block are one way (including Dore, which runs from
Bryant to Harrison), so you'll need to drive in circles a bit.
Once you get on Dore off of Bryant, go most of the way down Dore. Lennon
Studios is on your left. There's a munged-up old guitar strapped to the
gate.
That's where the studio is located, but you probably won't be able to
park anywhere around there. Most of the block around the studio usually
has parking, although it can be a bit spotty. It's best to carpool if
you can or take the Muni down there.
Warning: Do not try to drive the wrong way down
Dore, even though the studio is only a little ways down there! Cops have
a tendency to wait an bust people for doing precisely that.

When:
|
5 May, 1999 (duh, Cinco de Mayo, right?). Festivities will begin
about 7:00 or 8:00, but someone will be there from about 6:00 on, so don't
worry about it. Things will run until no later than 12:30, but
may or may not let out before then, depending on how things go.
|
|
What:
|
Performances by Haight Free Radio and the HFR All-Stars, which is basically
anyone with enough physical coordination to pick up an instrument. Cinco
de Mayo festivities, including:
- Some drinks. We're bringing a few cases of beer, but it wouldn't
hurt to bring more. If you want to bring really cool stuff, like
margarita makin's and a blender, that would be hugely welcome!
- Some snacky foods. Chips and salsa, that sort of thing. If you plan
to stick around for a while, it wouldn't hurt to have dinner or something
ahead of time! There's also food in the neighborhood. We're very near
11th Street, which has Za Pizza, the 20 Tank, and Wahaka. Nate's BBQ
is down the street, and so on.
- Pool. The studio has a pool table, so bring your best shark suit!
- Booty shakin'. Leastways, we're hoping so!

|
What else:
|
The only "catch" is that you should
let us know if you plan on coming! There's a limit on the number of
people we can have in the sound stage studio, so we'd like to know who's
coming and not coming so that we can get the right number of people in
there! This isn't a cop-type move: we figure we can squish the number
of people, plus people will be in and out most of the evening. But getting
at least a close count would be really helpful!
