Welcome to the home of Haight Free Radio, a funky jumpy collective of full musical madness. Keeping the spirit of the San Francisco music scene alive, but without slavish devotion to the sounds of the past, Haight Free Radio willingly explores musical styles from psychedelia to jazzy instrumentals to smoky slinky vocal stylings to country to straight-ahead driving rock and roll. Haight Free Radio is going off the air! HFR will be playing our LAST GIGS before moving on to greener pastures. This is your last chance to to tune into HFR!
Who: Haight Free Radio Where: Club Deluxe, 1511 Haight Street (near Ashbury)
and..... Where: El Rio, 3158 Mission Street (near Cesar Chavez)
Why: Because we're leaving town and this is your last chance to see us play! With the growing conservatism running rampant in this great land of ours, we all must do our part to keep the country in balance. Even as I write this, conservative republicans and giant corporations are slowly carving up this great country like it were the last turkey in the world on Thanksgiving Day. Everyone squabbling for their fair share, sort of like "Please pass the potatoes before I rig an election and install my corporate henchmen as the Defenders of the Turkey and call you all mean names like 'unpatriotic', and 'liberal'". We here at Haight Free Radio are doing our part by realizing that our swinging hipness is falling on overworked soil here in the Bay Area, so we're moving our crops into untapped areas of squareness and conservatism, the better to spread the love across this great land of ours. Rick, for example, is departing for the NRA playground known as Colorado, where he'll use his Mesa Boogie of Justice to extinguish the wildfires of the Religious Right. Kurt, on the other hand, heads for New Hampshire, where his political wheelin' and dealin' will have whitey knocking down the doors of the Democratic Party faster than you can say "George Bush is the worst CEO we've ever all worked for". Christine will be swooping in to our beloved New York City to singlehandedly protect every last skyscraper, while her not-so-mild-mannered alter-idenity attends an MBA program at New York University. SO- in true Haight Free Radio style, we've talked our way into playing our last big gig on June 21st at Club Deluxe on Haight Street, that stalwart bastion of liberal thought and hey-gimme-a-dollar-for-a-bottle-of-Mad-Dog-20-20-ism. We go on around 9:30pm, and play till the crowd can't take it anymore. They'll be surprise guests, each one more surprising than the last! Prizes! SUR-prizes! There's even a tiny, tiny cover charge! So once again that's... Who: Haight Free Radio Where: Club Deluxe, 1511 Haight Street (near Ashbury)
and..... Where: El Rio, 3158 Mission Street (near Cesar Chavez)
Why: Because if you were leaving town and playing a last gig, they'd come to see you, and because George Bush doesn't want you to. Really. He told us.
